This week's piece is called Drama Queen — and there's a story behind it that I've been wanting to share.
A little while ago, I injured my finger in a bad gardening accident. It was terrifying, because it was the middle finger on my right hand — and yes, I'm right-handed. The thought of not being able to hold a pen again was genuinely one of the scariest things I've faced.
Some of my family — my brother especially — lovingly called me a drama queen for how frightened I was. And honestly? Fair enough. But the fear was real.
I first thought of this piece while sitting in A&E waiting for a tetanus shot. Once the dressing and stitches finally came off, I was advised to start moving the finger to get the circulation going. Part of it is still numb, but the most amazing news is — I've managed to create again.
And I hid a little secret message in the art. You might notice I deliberately depicted a left hand using the middle finger, even though it was my right hand that was hurt. My brother is left-handed. Consider it a little playful payback, just for him. 😄
